MTN Nigeria has clarified why customers report rapid data depletion on their mobile devices.

The operator also announced new plans to boost investment in telecom infrastructure, aiming to deliver a more reliable network experience.

MTN made the statements during a public customer forum in Lagos, titled “Data On Trial” (DOT), which was set up to address consumer complaints about fast data loss.

During the forum, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, encouraged participants and representatives from various subscriber groups to ask questions about their concerns over data depletion and overall service quality.

One representative, Timi Agbaje, asked why subscribers’ data depletes so quickly on the MTN network and whether MTN had resolved such complaints in the past 12 months.

MTN’s technical team responded by explaining that they had invited subscribers to the Lagos office to demonstrate the back‑end processes that govern data consumption.

According to the team, MTN is transparent about its data services and does not intentionally deplete customer data for self‑interest.
