Chief Uzodinma Okpara, the son of the late Premier of the former Eastern Region, Dr. Michael Okpara, launched the “Ohuhu For Dr. Alex Otti 2027” movement. The initiative aims to secure the re‑election of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, under the slogan “Otti or Nothing.”
The inauguration took place at Okpara’s country residence in the Ohuhu Clan, Umuahia North Local Government Area. Attendees included political figures, technocrats, and pro‑Otti groups from across the state.
During the ceremony, Chief Okpara praised Governor Otti’s “exceptional performance” in less than three years in office, arguing that continuity would speed up Abia’s development. He urged members to promote the governor’s achievements at the grassroots level, stating that “the reward for good work is more work.”
Okpara assured Governor Otti that the people of Ohuhu would deliver a substantial vote share in 2027. He also announced his support for Hon. Obi Aguocha, the member representing the Umuahia North/Umuahia South/Ikwuano Federal Constituency, for a second term.
Chief Nmere Asonye, the coordinator of the group, described Ohuhu as a politically sophisticated clan that cannot remain silent about Abia’s future. He said that Governor Otti had rescued the state from years of stagnation and was actively building a “New Abia.” “For over two decades, Abia suffered bad governance, but in 2023 light broke through the darkness with the emergence of Alex Otti,” he added.
Leaders of the pro‑Otti platform Alpha Arise, led by Mazi Ugochukwu Okorafor and Dr. Godwin Duru, compared Otti’s leadership to that of the late Dr. Michael Okpara, who transformed the old Eastern Region into one of Africa’s fastest‑growing economies.
Mayor of Umuahia North, Mr. Smart Iheoma, pledged that Ohuhu would overcome any challenge to secure Otti’s re‑election. He advised opposition figures to focus on obtaining PVCs rather than “wasting resources” on campaigns.
Dr. Victor Ikeji, the Commissioner representing Abia at the Federal Character Commission, also endorsed the governor’s second‑term bid. He sent a representative from Abuja to convey his support.
The event’s highlight was a solidarity pledge led by Chief Uzodinma Okpara, during which members publicly committed themselves to Governor Otti’s 2027 re‑election campaign.
