Man United hopeful of signing Man City target Carrick after Ederson deal.

Manchester United’s board are “optimistic” about outbidding Manchester City for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.

The Red Devils aim to strengthen manager Michael Carrick’s squad for the upcoming season, having already signed Brazil midfielder Ederson from Atalanta in a £35 million deal.

With Casemiro’s departure from Old Trafford and the potential sale of Manuel Ugarte, Carrick wants at least one more midfielder. According to The Guardian, United are confident they can still persuade Anderson to choose them over City.

Manchester City had identified Anderson as their top summer target and are preparing a second offer after their initial £80 million bid was rejected. United believe Anderson has not yet finalized his future and can be convinced to join the club.

Anderson moved to Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024, signing a five‑year contract with the club.
