The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential aspirations to be “dead on arrival.”

The statement, signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare, was released to DAILY POST on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, Governor Makinde announced on Saturday that he would run as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the 2027 general elections.

Our correspondent reports that the APM flag was presented to the governor at an event in Ibadan, the state capital.

In response, the APC said the governor had abandoned the state to pursue his own ambitions.

The party also criticized Makinde for failing to meet the expectations of the people during his seven‑year tenure and claimed he has no excuse other than to perform his constitutional duties.

It added that, as governor, Makinde is in a position to address the state’s many challenges.

The APC’s statement read: “Certainly, Gov. Makinde’s presidential ambition is dead on arrival, but our fear is about the amount of losses, deprivation and wastefulness which the good people of the state would be subjected to in the next one year under his leadership. The people of Oyo State deserve a team player, a sincere and humble person as their governor, and since Makinde has failed to demonstrate these qualities in the last seven years, he should just apologise and quit the state.”
