The Oyo State Government has announced a 16‑hour curfew that will apply to ten local government areas (LGAs) starting Wednesday, 24 June 2026.

Governor Seyi Makinde authorised the curfew, which will operate daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and will be in effect for an initial 48‑hour period.

The order was issued in a memo from the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, who explained that the measure is intended to address security concerns in LGAs adjacent to the Old Oyo National Park.

In the statement, Professor Babatunde noted, “Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the declaration of a 16‑hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state.”

The memo added that “the curfew takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will run between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. for 48 hours in the first instance.”

He further said that the restriction will cover LGAs surrounding the Old Oyo National Park, emphasizing that the action is necessary to protect lives and property in those communities.

“The curfew affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park,” the statement said.

The affected LGAs are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with the security agencies deployed to enforce the curfew.

The state government said that further instructions would be communicated to the public once the security situation is reviewed at the end of the initial 48‑hour period.
