Real Madrid have announced the signing of defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea on a six‑year contract.

The transfer fee is reported as £47.5 million plus £4.3 million in add‑ons, potentially rising to £51.8 million in total.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Real Madrid said: “Real Madrid C. F. and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032.”

Chelsea acquired Cucurella from Brighton four years ago for £63 million. The 27‑year‑old made 163 appearances for the club, winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup, according to Sky Sports.

While several clubs were interested, the former Barcelona full‑back chose to join Real Madrid. He had also been linked with a return to Barcelona, as well as moves to Atlético Madrid and Manchester City.

Cucurella is currently with Spain at the World Cup, where the national team will open Group H against Cape Verde on Monday.

The player publicly criticised Chelsea’s transfer policy and the decision to allow Enzo Maresca to leave at the start of the year.

He was not listed among Chelsea’s “untouchable” players, which include Cole Palmer and club captain Reece James.

It has been a busy summer for Real Madrid’s incoming manager José Mourinho, who will officially begin his role next month. Deals for Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva have already been completed.

Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato, who joined from Ajax last summer for £37 million, is now in contention to become Chelsea’s first‑choice left‑back next season, although the club could also look to strengthen that position.

Cucurella’s move is unrelated to any potential transfer of midfielder Enzo Fernández to Real Madrid. Fernández said in an interview in April that he would welcome living in Madrid.

Chelsea maintains good relations with Real Madrid but would not allow Fernández to leave for less than £120 million. He arrived at Stamford Bridge from Benfica in 2023 for a fee of £106.8 million.
