The Labour Party’s Abia State Chapter announced that it will conduct its governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly primaries all on the same day—Saturday, May 30, 2026—across the state’s 184 wards.

The decision was made public by the party’s Publicity Secretary in Abia, Iroegbu Emenike, in a statement issued on Thursday.

Emenike said the move follows an official directive from the national leadership of the LP, which had already informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the nationwide adjustment and harmonisation of primary dates.

The party urged all members and aspirants in the 184 wards of the 17 local government areas to prepare for the exercise and assured them that sufficient security arrangements have been arranged to ensure orderly conduct of the primaries.

LP also pledged that the process would be credible, peaceful and inclusive, in accordance with the Electoral Act, the Labour Party constitution and all established democratic guidelines.

However, the announcement did not clarify whether the party would hold a primary to select its presidential candidate.
