Bayer Leverkusen has announced that midfielder Francis Onyeka has signed a contract extension with the club before completing a season‑long loan to newly promoted SV 07 Elversberg ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga season.

The 19‑year‑old attacking midfielder had a breakthrough season on loan at VfL Bochum in Bundesliga 2, where he established himself as one of the league’s most promising young players.

During his time in the second division, Onyeka delivered consistent performances, scoring eight goals and providing one assist across 30 league matches.

His impressive displays attracted interest from several clubs across Germany. Elversberg secured his loan as they look to strengthen their squad for survival in the top tier.

The club views the Nigerian‑born midfielder as a vital addition who can enhance creativity and attacking options.

After extending his contract with Leverkusen, Onyeka described the agreement as a significant boost to his career progression, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge.

He said the extension is a “great honour” and a source of “further motivation,” emphasizing his eagerness to demonstrate his abilities consistently at Elversberg.

“The contract extension at Bayer 04 is a great honour for me and, at the same time, further motivation,” Onyeka told the club’s official website.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge at Elversberg and to proving myself week in, week out in the Bundesliga,” he added.

He reaffirmed his aspiration to break into the Bayer first team, noting that playing for the club has always been a childhood dream.

Born in Gummersbach, Onyeka has now committed his long‑term future to Leverkusen, with his contract extending until the summer of 2032.
