Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, has urged the creation of a United States military base in Borno State, arguing that such a presence could help counter Boko Haram insurgents in the North‑East.

Ndume made the statement in an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics*, where he discussed the security challenges confronting the region.

He said the Mandara Mountains’ strategic position could offer security forces a valuable viewpoint for monitoring insurgent activity in parts of Borno State, including the Sambisa Forest.

“I am in full support. In fact, I am appealing. Let the Americans go to Gwoza and take over the Mandara Mountains, please. It will go a long way to cut down on insecurity,” Ndume said.

The senator contended that increased surveillance and military operations in the area would disrupt the movement routes and supply channels allegedly used by insurgent groups across the North‑East.

He also stressed that the Nigerian military needs additional resources and support to effectively address security threats in the region.

“You can’t do that without a team and enough boots on the ground. The Nigerian Army needs the resources,” he added.

Ndume further noted that bolstering operations around the Mandara Mountains, Sambisa Forest, and surrounding areas could help reduce insurgent activity and improve security for affected communities.
