ABUJA – Timi Frank, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and current Ambassador of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua to East Africa and the Middle East, called on the State Security Services (SSS) to shift its focus from detaining activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore to confronting the bandits and terrorists that are destabilising Nigeria.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Frank described the SSS’s arrest of Sowore as a “national disgrace” and warned that it represented a dangerous distraction from the real security threats facing the country.

“It is unfortunate that the SSS seems more interested in going after opposition figures than confronting the bandits and terrorists terrorising innocent Nigerians. This arrest is clearly politically motivated,” he said.

Frank argued that while security agencies are devoting resources to pursuing critics of the government, armed groups continue to threaten lives and communities across Nigeria with little resistance.
