Muhammed Rilwanu Lawal has been selected as the Labour Party’s consensus candidate for governor of Kaduna State in the 2027 general election.
The primary election, held in Kaduna on Saturday, attracted a large number of party members who voted to choose the party’s nominees for the upcoming elections. The process was described as peaceful and orderly.
Dr Oluwa Femi, chairman of the Labour Party Governorship Election Committee, praised the conduct of the exercise, noting that it reflected the unity and cohesion among party members despite their differences. He added, “Labour Party is the only political party in Nigeria with a clear ideology that embraced all Nigerians as members. It is a true party that truly stands for the well‑being of Nigerians.”
Former Labour Party gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Asake, who ran in the 2023 Kaduna State election, also commended the members for the peaceful and organized nature of the primary. He observed that the understanding among aspirants facilitated the emergence of consensus candidates for other political offices.
Consensus was also reached for all other positions. The senatorial candidates are Abdu Aliyu (Kaduna North), Eld. Dr Yusuf Solomon Danbaki (Kaduna Central), and Amos Sheyin (Kaduna South).
House of Representatives nominees include Barr. Yayai Iliya Dadai (Kaura), Saidu James Yakubu (Kagarko), Emmanuel Bala (Kaduna South), Dr Emmanuel Barau (Makarfi/Kudan), Abubakar Bello (Igabi), and Comrade Saratu Larai Shekari (Chikun/Kajuru).
State House of Assembly nominees are Elisha Isaac (Jama’), James Yakubu Saidu (Kagarko), Suleiman Umar (Kudan), Engr. Garba Emmanuel Bajimai (Lere), Muhammed Sani Aliyu (Makarfi), and Lawal Abdullahi (Kaduna South). Additional nominees are Baba Chechet Solomon (Sabon Gari Basawa), Hillary Francis (Zangon Kataf), Ahmadu Yustus (Sanga), and Bala Awodi (Chikun).
