Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to the late ex‑President Muhammadu Buhari, stated that Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) vice‑presidential candidate, cannot remain in any party where he does not have full control.
Ahmad made the remark in a post on his verified X account on Monday.
He was responding to the recent turmoil in the North West ADC, especially in Kano state, where the party had replaced several candidates.
The changes were reportedly made to enforce a power‑sharing agreement reached between factions of the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his own words, Ahmad said, “I have told many people that Senator Kwankwaso cannot comfortably remain in any political party where he does not enjoy total control, particularly over the Kano State party structure.”
“This was one of the major reasons he left the APC in 2018, despite the fact that there was arguably no better political platform available for him to advance his ambition.”
“For Kwankwaso, maintaining complete dominance over the party machinery in Kano has always been a non‑negotiable priority.”
