Katsina Launches N328 million Scholarship for 650 Medical Students

The Katsina State Government has released N328,123,392.35 for the first phase of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme, which will benefit 650 students enrolled in 33 accredited universities across Nigeria and abroad.

Dr. Muhammad Nazir Shehu, General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (KTHSMB), announced the disbursement in a statement signed by the board’s Secretary, Abu Usman.

He noted that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda approved the initiative, underscoring the administration’s commitment to strengthening human capital in the health sector.

The allowance is intended to ease the financial burdens that medical students face during their academic and professional training.

“This is a strategic investment by the Katsina State Government to build a competent, resilient and service‑oriented healthcare workforce capable of meeting the evolving health needs of Katsina State and the nation,” he said.

Shehu pledged that the scholarship funds would be managed transparently and distributed properly, describing the scheme as a deliberate investment in workforce development.

He added that the Radda‑led government’s scholarship program aims to produce professionals who can address the state’s changing health challenges.

Shehu urged recipients to use the support responsibly and to maintain a commitment to academic excellence, noting that additional phases of the allowance scheme will be introduced to further support students.

“Students are expected to maintain professionalism and ethical conduct in line with the expectations and vision of the Katsina State Government,” he added.
