Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria Michael Freeman stated that Israel will observe the ceasefire with Lebanon while also protecting its soldiers as any nation would.
Freeman made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview with Arise News, a television station based in Nigeria.
He explained that an immediate threat to Israeli troops on the ground prompted them to act to prevent an attack.
“We are abiding by the ceasefire. We’ve made it clear that Israel will observe that ceasefire. We will also act to protect our citizens and our troops like any country would. We just hope that the ceasefire holds,” Freeman said.
“We’ve just been told by our army that there was a direct and imminent threat to our troops, and I’m sure that over the coming days, that information will come out,” he added.
“But at the moment, we know that it was a direct and imminent threat. We acted because we know that, certainly in terror organizations like Hezbollah, whenever they put a threat, they carry it out,” Freeman said.
