Iran shifts World Cup base from the US to Mexico

Iran has announced that it will relocate its 2026 World Cup training base from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana, Mexico, after receiving approval from FIFA.

Federation president Mehdi Taj explained the decision in a video shared by the Fars news agency. “Thanks to the meetings we had with FIFA officials, our request to change the base from the United States to Mexico was accepted,” Taj said.

“We will therefore be based in Tijuana, near the Pacific Ocean. It is a city that lies between Mexico and the US, but it is located in Mexico. We have actually completed the team building there.”

Taj added that the move would eliminate visa complications and that the squad could travel directly to Mexico on Iran Air flights.
