Iran carried out a hanging on Wednesday of a man convicted of providing information to Israeli intelligence, according to the judiciary, marking another execution in the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Since the war with Israel and the United States began in February, Iran has increased the number of executions, especially in cases alleged to involve espionage or other security offenses.
“Ehsan Afreshteh, a spy trained by Mossad in Nepal who sold sensitive information to Israel, has been executed,” said the Iranian judiciary’s Mizan Online website.
“Arrested and tried for espionage and collaboration with the Zionist regime, he was hanged this morning after… the verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court,” it added.
Human‑rights organizations state that Iran ranks second worldwide in the number of executions, behind China.
On Monday, an aerospace engineering student was also hanged after being found guilty of spying for Israel and the United States.
