The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has scheduled Saturday, June 20, 2026, for a by‑election to fill the vacant Rivers South‑East Senatorial seat.
The election will replace Senator Barry Mpigi, who passed away, leaving the seat empty.
According to the Commission, voting will start at 8:00 a.m. and finish at 2:30 p.m. in the seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
The poll will be held in 88 Registration Areas and 1,629 Polling Units across Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Khana and Gokana local government areas.
Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem announced the schedule in a statement released on Thursday.
He assured residents, political parties and other stakeholders that the Commission is committed to conducting a peaceful, transparent and credible by‑election.
