Hormuz Strait Sees 35 Ship Crossings in 24 Hours, Iran Reports

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reports that at least 35 ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours, including oil tankers, container vessels, and other commercial ships.

The IRGC said on Friday that the strait remains open to traffic, with the Iranian Navy providing coordination and security.

This development is part of Iran’s effort to introduce a toll system for the strait, a move the United States described as unacceptable.

“It would make a diplomatic deal unfeasible if they were to continue to pursue that. So it’s a threat to the world if they were trying to do that, and it’s completely illegal,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

Iran has continued to advance the initiative, with Reuters reporting this week that military units have set up checkpoints, implemented ship vetting, established diplomatic arrangements, and in some cases imposed security fees for safe passage.

The government has also created a Persian Gulf Strait Authority and outlined a map of a self‑styled controlled maritime zone it intends to oversee in the future.
