Gov. Idris turned against me after I raised concerns about insecurity in Kebbi – Maidoki

Senator Garba Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South Senatorial District, has alleged that Governor Nasir Idris is targeting him for bringing national attention to the escalating insecurity in the state, especially in his own constituency.

He made the claim during a press interview shortly after officially switching parties from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the Senate floor.

The lawmaker expressed no regret about leaving the ruling party, stating that his decision was made in the interest of his constituents by voicing concerns over bandit attacks and other security issues in Kebbi South.

He said his relationship with the governor soured after he raised the state's security situation on the Senate floor and called for intervention.

“What is my fault in Kebbi? I stood up here in the Senate to tell Nigerians to assist us, that bandits are killing us, and suddenly, the governor thought I was fighting him. I have never fought the governor,” he said.

He maintained that his main duty is to represent his constituents' interests and push for better security and development in the region.

“All I want is for the dividends of democracy to reach my people. I cried out because my people asked me to. I will continue to do so for their benefit, the benefit of Kebbi State and Nigeria generally,” he added.

The senator also expressed confidence in his political prospects after switching to the ADC, saying that the people of Kebbi South remain firmly behind him and will back his return to the Senate in the 2027 general election.

He also accused political interests in Kebbi Central of trying to influence decisions in Kebbi South, asserting that the district’s people would resist such interference.
