France reports first confirmed case of Ebola virus disease

The French Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that France has confirmed its first case of Ebola virus disease.

The confirmation came after a doctor returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to the ministry, the doctor was immediately admitted to a specialised facility and is currently in a stable condition.

Earlier this month, the Democratic Republic of Congo declared an Ebola outbreak, although experts believe the virus had been circulating for several weeks before that announcement.

In the central African country, more than 260 people have died from the virus, and about 1,000 have been infected.

Daily Post reports that Ebola virus disease is a rare, severe, and often fatal illness in humans caused by a group of viruses known as orthoebolaviruses.

The disease primarily spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated objects, producing symptoms such as sudden fever, severe bleeding, and organ failure.
