Former Super Eagles striker Simy to attend “The Homecoming” event celebrating his remarkable Saudi season.

Former Super Eagles forward Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo, known as Simy, will return to his hometown of Nkpor‑Agu in Idemili North L.G.A., Anambra State, on 21 June 2026. The visit, titled “The Homecoming,” will celebrate his successful season with Saudi second‑tier club Al‑Orobah and reconnect him with the community that helped shape his career.

During the 2025‑26 Saudi First Division season, Simy scored 27 league goals and provided four assists in 27 appearances, helping Al‑Orobah finish fifth. The club missed promotion to the Saudi Pro League after a 2‑1 semi‑final defeat to Al‑Ula in the play‑offs, with Simy netting Al‑Orobah’s lone goal.

The event will include a Thanksgiving Mass and a novelty football match, allowing Simy to give thanks for his career and look forward to future successes.

Thanksgiving Service and Novelty Match Feature in Simy Nwankwo’s “The Homecoming” Celebration

The one‑day program begins with an 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Mass at Holy Cross Parish, Nkpor‑Agu, and concludes with an all‑star novelty match on the United Primary School football field at 4 p.m.

The all‑star game will feature former Nigerian internationals Uche Nwofor and Ogenyi Onazi, Belgian club Oud‑Heverlee Leuven’s Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi, Saudi side Al‑Sinaa SC’s David Nworah, and Turkish First Division club Ankara Keçiörengücü’s Francis Ezeh, among others.

From Nkpor‑Agu to International Football Stardom

Simy began his career in Nkpor‑Agu before moving abroad to play for Portuguese clubs Portimonense and Gil Vicente. He later appeared for Italian sides Crotone, Salernitana, Parma and Benevento, and is currently with Al‑Orobah in Saudi Arabia.

The Nanka‑born striker, standing 6 ft 6 in, finished the recent Saudi First Division League campaign as joint‑top scorer with 28 goals.

His career highlights include becoming the first African player to finish as the top scorer in an Italian professional league after netting 20 goals for Crotone in the 2019/20 Serie B season.
