Former Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa takes a surprise job with an English Premier League club

Former Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa is poised for a surprise move to Premier League side Fulham.

According to Athletic, Fulham have held talks with Arbeloa as they seek to replace Marco Silva.

Silva has departed Fulham to become Benfica manager, succeeding José Mourinho, who is set to return to Real Madrid where he will succeed Arbeloa.

Arbeloa took over at Real Madrid after Xabi Alonso, now Chelsea manager, was sacked in January.

The 43‑year‑old previously played for Real Madrid, Liverpool and West Ham United during his professional career.
