Former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi has warned that Nigeria’s escalating insecurity is nearing a state of war, calling on President Bola Tinubu to declare a national security emergency.

Makarfi made the remarks during a meeting with journalists at his Kaduna home over the weekend, voicing concern about the growing wave of killings, kidnappings and terrorist attacks across the country.

He said the current security climate has become so severe that it demands joint action from all stakeholders, regardless of political affiliation.

“The current security situation is close to a state of war. We must come together and confront it as a national challenge,” Makarfi said.

He added that insecurity continues to erode governance, hamper economic growth and threaten the wellbeing of Nigerians.

The former Peoples Democratic Party chairman urged the Federal Government to stop politicising insecurity and to take decisive steps to address the crisis, emphasizing that protecting lives and property should remain the nation’s top priority.
