Former Chelsea player urges Rashford to focus beyond money.

Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin has urged Barcelona striker Marcus Rashford to stop fixating on money and to negotiate a deal that keeps him at Manchester United.

Nevin made the remarks while talking about Rashford’s shrinking list of realistic transfer options and which clubs could actually meet his financial demands.

Speaking on Grosvenor Casinos, Nevin said that if he were advising Rashford, he would advise him to lower his wage expectations in order to secure his future.

“If I was advising Marcus Rashford I’d tell him to stop being obsessed with money and cut a deal to stay at Manchester United because that’s where he belongs,” Nevin told Grosvenor Casinos.

“I don’t know if Barca can really keep on paying all the money. Real Madrid can. Nobody else can really pay a staggering amount for a player who has got a checkered background.”

“Remember the sums he’s on at Manchester United is staggering. So, there is a limited amount of teams that will buy. Someone like Chelsea wouldn’t buy him because they buy younger players and it’s all about sales there. So, you’re kind of limiting the teams you can go to.”

“So, for Marcus, if he can blank agents and sit in a darkened room then turn on the light and look in the mirror and say: ‘How do I want to be looked back on in 20 or 30 years’ time? Do I want to look back at that bank account there, thinking that’s got another zero in it. Or do I just want to make sure I enjoyed it.’”

Rashford excelled during his year‑long loan at Barcelona, recording double‑digit numbers in both goals and assists. This performance sparked speculation that Hansi Flick’s side might trigger an option to purchase him permanently for around £26 million, but their £69.3 million acquisition of Gordon and ongoing pursuit of Julian Alvarez have raised doubts about their ability to also secure the United star.

Barcelona have until 15 June to sign Rashford on a permanent basis for £26 million as the clock ticks toward the World Cup this summer, where he has already departed for North America.
