Fernandes Named Premier League Player of the Season

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named Premier League Player of the Season.

The Portugal midfielder was also awarded the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year earlier this month.

Fernandes matched the Premier League record for assists in a single season when he set up his 20th goal against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

He has scored eight goals in 37 matches, helping United finish third and secure Champions League qualification.

Fernandes created 132 chances this campaign, the highest total in the league, 43 more than Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai, who finished second in that category.

He is the first United player to win the award since defender Nemanja Vidic in 2011.

The award is determined by combining public votes with those of a panel of football experts.

Other nominees included Arsenal’s David Raya, Gabriel and Declan Rice; Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo; Brentford’s Igor Thiago; and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs‑White.

United travel to Brighton for their final match of the season today.
