The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, cautioned local contractors on Monday not to collect payments and then fail to finish projects in the capital.

Wike warned that contractors who are unable to work during the rainy season should not apply for funds from the FCT Administration.

He made the remarks during the commissioning of the newly built Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, a ceremony held to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third‑year anniversary.

President Tinubu was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Wike said: “I’m happy today because when the contract was awarded to a local contractor, I was a bit worried and I called the Managing Director, whom I have known, and said, ‘you know that I do not have friends when it comes to the job. If you want to be my friend, make sure that this job is completed and on time.’”

He added, “I always said that if I pay you money during the rainy season, ensure that you complete the work during that period, because there is no need if you are not going to work during the rainy season to collect our money and put it in the bank and earn interest.”

Wike concluded, “If you know that you will not work during the rainy season, leave our money alone to stay with us, and when the dry season comes, we will pay you.”
