Manchester United legend Gary Neville has dismissed Cristiano Ronaldo while naming the club’s best-ever forward.
During his playing days at Old Trafford, Neville shared the pitch with several prominent forwards, including Ronaldo.
In an interview with his former teammate Rio Ferdinand on Ferdinand’s YouTube program “Rio Meets,” Neville declared Wayne Rooney the Red Devils’ greatest forward.
He said Rooney possessed the ability to perform every role on the field, from attacking to defending.
“He [Rooney] is the best Wazza. He was the best forward I ever saw at Manchester United,” Neville remarked.
“He was a mixture of Mark Hughes, Van Nistelrooy, Eric Cantona, Paul Scholes in the half‑turn, Dwight Yorke; he was a blend of all the best players that were amazing.”
“He could do all the things that they could do. He could drop in, he could pass, he could finish, he could head, left‑foot, right‑foot, could sprint back and defend.”
