The Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to oppose any attempts to hijack its structure amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
State Chairman Johnpaul Anih made the statement on Wednesday while speaking to members of the State Executive Committee at a meeting in Enugu.
Anih said the party remains open to new members and welcomes defectors from other political parties, describing the growing influx as evidence of confidence in the NDC as a credible political alternative in the state.
He warned that the party will not tolerate actions that could undermine its structure or internal democratic processes.
“There is still room for reconciliation and unity within our ranks. However, we will not tolerate any attempt to hijack the party through the backdoor,” he said.
The chairman emphasized the NDC’s commitment to building a broad‑based political movement grounded in internal democracy, discipline and progressive ideals.
He also appealed to aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation and align with the party’s vision ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The leadership reaffirmed its resolve to strengthen its structures across the 17 local government areas of the state and urged members to remain united and focused.
Anih assured supporters that the party would uphold transparency, fairness and inclusive leadership as it expands its membership base throughout the state.
He added that the NDC will field credible candidates capable of winning elections in Enugu State during the 2027 polls.
