England’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup were disrupted when some of the team’s training equipment was reportedly stolen before the squad’s arrival in Kansas City.
The theft took place while the gear was being transported to England’s training base at Swope Soccer Village, just before the team was scheduled to arrive on Saturday. Vehicles carrying the equipment were allegedly broken into, prompting a police investigation.
The Football Association is currently evaluating the damage, with training balls and boots among the items believed to have been taken.
England manager Thomas Tuchel and his squad were due to land in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon, with the equipment expected to be ready at the training facility before the team’s arrival.
Police officers responded to the scene on Friday night and are working closely with the FA as the investigation proceeds. Two arrests have already been made in connection with the incident.
A spokesperson for Kansas Police confirmed the investigation: “We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening. The investigation is ongoing.”
The theft has raised concerns that England’s preparations for their opening World Cup match against Croatia on Wednesday could be affected, depending on the extent of the losses.
Despite the setback, the England squad is expected to continue with its training schedule, with players set to hold their first full training session on Sunday as Tuchel finalises preparations for the tournament opener.
