England coach Thomas Tuchel responds to criticism of Harry Kane ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

England manager Thomas Tuchel denied claims that the side relies too heavily on Harry Kane after a goalless draw with Ghana in Boston during the World Cup.

The Three Lions were reminded of their limits after a 4-2 win over Croatia in the opening match, only to finish their second game in a scoreless draw.

Although the team controlled possession and generated many chances, they failed to force a result.

Near the end, Bukayo Saka forced a smart save from Benjamin Asare, Nico O'Reilly hit the crossbar with a header, and Harry Kane's rebound flew into the stands.

After Kane failed to score, Tuchel was asked whether the team depends too much on the Bayern Munich striker, a claim he rejected.

Tuchel pointed out that while Kane scored twice in the earlier game, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also found the net.

“Do Argentina rely too heavily on Lionel Messi, and France on Kylian Mbappe? That’s what it is – it’s world‑class players who normally do what they do,” said Tuchel after the game.

“We had three different goalscorers in the first match, to rely on Harry is a natural thing because he loves the responsibility and takes it.”

“He was not involved as much as we’d like to but that was not his fault. Our two central defenders were responsible for the build‑up and it was eight against 10 then.”

“The little moments he had were unlucky, and the last one was a clear goal. We rely on Harry because we can, he’s our forward, but we don’t over‑rely on him.”
