Lawmaker Mohammed Bello El‑Rufai, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has condemned the killing of a teacher known only as Ummulkhairi by a mob.
The Daily Post reports that the woman was lynched in Mararaban Jos, a community along the Kaduna‑Zaria highway, on Sunday after a false accusation that she was attempting to kidnap children.
In a statement released on Tuesday, El‑Rufai expressed deep sorrow over the death of an innocent woman whose only “offence” was asking for directions to attend a lecture. He described the act as “unimaginable cruelty.”
El‑Rufai said the barbaric act is a “stain on our collective conscience” and that “no suspicion or allegation without evidence can ever justify mob violence.” He added that the sanctity of human life is fundamental to both faith and law, yet the victim was denied due process and killed in the most inhumane manner.
He also highlighted the disturbing reports that security personnel were present at the scene but failed to intervene effectively. “Every Nigerian deserves the full protection of the law, and jungle justice must never be normalised under any circumstances,” he said.
El‑Rufai condemned the rising pattern of mob violence across the country, often fueled by rumours, misinformation, and instant judgment. “No society can thrive where citizens take the law into their own hands,” he warned.
He called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that all those responsible—direct perpetrators, instigators, and any negligent actors—are brought to justice. He urged the implementation of stronger preventive measures to avoid a recurrence.
El‑Rufai concluded by offering his thoughts and prayers to the victim’s family, wishing Allah (SWT) to forgive her shortcomings, grant her Al‑Jannah Firdaus, and comfort her loved ones. He affirmed that justice must prevail.
