Eid-el-Kabir: CAN urges Nigerians to pray for purposeful leadership

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the Niger State Chapter, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has called on Nigerians to keep praying for peace, unity, and purposeful leadership as the country heads toward the 2027 general elections.

Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of the Kontagora Diocese, expressed confidence that the difficulties facing Niger State and the nation will soon be overcome through collective prayer, tolerance, and cooperation among citizens.

In a Sallah message released to journalists on Wednesday, the CAN Chairman urged residents of Niger State to use the festive period for sober reflection, seeking God’s mercy and guidance for the nation.

He said, “I want to urge all Nigerians to remain hopeful in God and not give up despite the numerous challenges facing our state and the country.”

“We must continue to show love and compassion to the less privileged by reaching out to people in orphanages, old people’s homes, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps, hospitals, and correctional centres,” he added.

Yohanna further urged citizens to embrace peaceful coexistence and love one another regardless of tribe, ethnicity, or religion, stressing that unity remains the key to overcoming the nation’s challenges.

The cleric noted that Eid‑el‑Kabir symbolizes sacrifice, love, peace, and obedience to God, and that the lessons of the season should extend beyond the celebration.

He also called for greater tolerance, synergy, and cooperation among Nigerians to build a more peaceful and prosperous society.

Finally, he congratulated Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, the Council of Traditional Rulers, the Etsu Nupe, other royal fathers, and the entire Muslim Ummah on the successful celebration of Eid‑el‑Kabir.
