Ebenezer Akinsanmiro: Why Inter Milan and Pisa Disagreed Over the Nigerian Star's Transfer

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro’s expected permanent transfer from Inter Milan to Pisa has fallen through, even though Pisa had tried to activate their purchase option for the Nigerian midfielder, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Super Eagles midfielder spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Pisa and was slated to stay after the club exercised a €7.5 million buy clause in the loan agreement. Inter Milan had retained a buy‑back option worth €8.5 million as part of the deal.

However, the transfer never materialised. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano said the agreement collapsed during the final exchange of documents between the clubs. Akinsanmiro will therefore return to Inter, which is now exploring other offers for the former Remo Stars player.

Interest in the Nigerian remains high across Europe. Italian reports indicate that Bundesliga clubs Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach are monitoring the situation closely, while Bologna has also made enquiries. An unnamed Premier League club is believed to be tracking developments as well.

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro: Why the Pisa transfer collapsed

Although the deal appeared straightforward at first, the real issue arose during the final approval process.

According to Italian sources, Pisa failed to provide the financial guarantees required for the transfer to be registered and approved by the relevant football authorities. The club had already exercised the €7.5 million option, but the transaction was reportedly blocked during document verification.

Pisa’s relegation from Serie A at the end of the campaign is understood to have played a major role. Dropping to Serie B significantly reduced the club’s projected revenues and financial flexibility, making it difficult to meet the regulations governing a transfer of that size.

With the required guarantees not submitted, the paperwork could not be ratified, forcing Inter to cancel the operation. The buy option has now expired, and the Nerazzurri are reportedly seeking a fee of around €10 million from interested clubs for Akinsanmiro.
