David Ayuba Dumwe, a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, has filed a lawsuit with the Federal High Court in Lafia. Dumwe seeks to overturn the party’s designation of Beauty Sudar Aliyu as its consensus candidate for the 2027 general elections.

In case FHC/LF/CS/9/2026, Dumwe requests judicial intervention, arguing that the PDP’s declaration of Aliyu violated the Electoral Act by failing to obtain the aspirant’s consent and by not holding a valid primary election for the constituency.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Beauty Sudar Aliyu are named as the second and third defendants, respectively.

According to the court filings, Dumwe claims that the PDP announced Aliyu as its consensus candidate without following proper consultation procedures or conducting a legitimate primary. He contends that this action breaches established democratic norms and the legal framework governing candidate nominations.

Dumwe asks the court to assess the legality of the alleged consensus arrangement and the party’s nomination process for the federal constituency seat. He maintains that all aspirants within a political party are entitled to a transparent and lawful selection process, as mandated by the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.

The lawsuit arrives amid intensified political activity and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties nationwide finalize their candidate selections.

The Federal High Court in Lafia has scheduled a hearing for the matter on 16 June 2026.
