The Nigerian Naira held a relatively stable position against the United States Dollar in both the official and parallel foreign exchange markets on Wednesday morning.

According to data from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the local currency traded at an official rate of 1,372.84 Naira per Dollar. This represents a slight adjustment from the 1,372.64 Naira recorded during the previous day’s session, continuing a pattern of tight horizontal consolidation in the official window through the latter half of May. Daily transaction metrics show steady liquidity inflow as the Central Bank of Nigeria maintains market interventions to manage structural volatility.

In the unofficial parallel market, often called the black market, activity mirrored the stability seen in the official window. Street traders in major currency hubs such as Lagos and Abuja are buying the greenback at an average rate of 1,410 Naira and selling between 1,420 Naira and 1,425 Naira per Dollar. The spread between the official window and the parallel market remains comfortably under 4%, indicating reduced arbitrage opportunities and greater equilibrium across the segments.

Market analysts attribute the ongoing stability to consistent supply dynamics and the central bank’s tightening monetary measures. Financial stakeholders expect the Naira to stay within its current trading band as corporate demand for the month‑end import cycles begins to taper off in the coming days.
