Afrobeats star Davido used his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown concert in the United States to call for action on the abduction of Nigerian pupils. The singer appeared on stage wearing a custom outfit that paid tribute to students and teachers taken in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area.
A backstage video that went viral showed the details of his attire. Davido wore a white T‑shirt with the word “NIGERIA” printed on it, layered under a black leather jacket. The jacket’s back bore the message “BRING THEM HOME,” while the front featured green circular buttons. Each button carried the name of a kidnapped victim, with white lettering for those still in captivity and red for those who had died.
Using his status as a global cultural ambassador, the artist aimed to bring international attention to Nigeria’s security crisis. Before taking the stage, Davido expressed his sorrow and urged the government to accelerate rescue efforts.
“Peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed,” he said. “They still haven’t been rescued; we’re praying to God every day. We’re also praying to God that the government hastens, and you know… My country is going through a lot. We represent everywhere we go.”
