Court orders the remand of a Jigawa man accused of defaming an APC leader

A Magistrate Court in Dutse, Jigawa State, has ordered the remand of Habibu Muhammad Ringim on accusations that he made defamatory remarks about All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Faruk Adamu Aliyu.

Ringim was arraigned before the court on Monday, 11 May 2026, facing allegations that he broadcast defamatory statements concerning the APC chieftain on Premier Radio.

In his recent broadcast on Premier Radio, Ringim claimed that Aliyu played a pivotal role in preventing Dr Halima from receiving the party’s ticket to run for the Senate seat representing Jigawa South‑West.

According to Ringim, “Governor Namadi has directed that anyone interested in any political position should contest for it. Because Hon Adamu Aliyu knows the people of the zone don’t like him, he wanted to scuttle and sabotage Dr Halima’s chances.

“He has forgotten that he himself was once an ordinary person. About twenty years ago, he worked as a carpenter before he was given the opportunity to contest the House of Representatives seat representing Birnin Kudu and Buji. Now, he has started troubling people.

“People don’t like him because he does not help anyone. He was also among those who opposed Danmodi during the 2023 election and even took the matter to the Supreme Court in an attempt to nullify the election, but they were unsuccessful.”

After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge ordered that the defendant remain in custody until 28 May 2026 for the continuation of the case.
