Eric Chelle, the current head coach of the Super Eagles, has agreed to also coach Nigeria’s U‑23 national team after an arrangement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Chelle, 48, decided to merge the positions during a meeting with senior NFF and National Sports Commission (NSC) officials in Abuja on Tuesday.

Former internationals Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi had previously been considered for the U‑23 Eagles coaching role.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the men’s football tournaments at the last two Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.

The U‑23 Eagles earned a bronze medal at their most recent Olympic appearance in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016.

They captured the gold medal in men’s football at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, making them the first African nation to do so.
