Chelle Signs New Super Eagles Contract to Manage the U‑23 Eagles

Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, announced that Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will retain his position after a new contract agreement was reached.

Dikko made the statement on Tuesday following a meeting in Abuja between NSC officials and representatives of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to discuss the future of the national teams.

Chelle’s original two‑year contract, which expires at the end of 2026, has been under negotiation for several months. After finishing third at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, Chelle reportedly asked for a monthly salary of $130,000, a figure that would also cover his assistants and other conditions.

“This new contract and new remuneration, which I think the NFF will finalize, has been agreed upon,” Dikko said. “We have settled on an increased payment for the coach and will also support his assistants. The NFF will handle the paperwork.”

Dikko added that Chelle will also take charge of the U‑23 Eagles.

“We discussed how to build for the future, especially with the next AFCON and World Cup on the horizon,” he said. “We must learn from past mistakes and improve. By having the coach oversee the U‑23 team, we can align development from youth to senior levels, allowing Chelle and his staff to add a few key players to the senior squad.”

The goal is to start building for 2030 now by integrating young talent into the national setup, laying the groundwork for future success.
