Chelle Discusses Super Eagles’ Disappointments at the World Cup and AFCON 2025

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has again expressed regret over the team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the DAILY POST.

Chelle also apologized for the squad’s inability to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will not participate in the 2026 World Cup finals, which will be co‑hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States next month.

The Super Eagles were eliminated after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo 4‑3 on penalties in the final of the African playoffs.

The team also fell short at the AFCON 2025 finals in Morocco earlier in the year.

The three‑time champions finished third in the competition.

However, the Super Eagles successfully defended their Unity Cup title with a comfortable 3‑0 victory over Jamaica at the Valley, London, on Saturday night.

Speaking after the match, Chelle thanked Nigerians for their support of him and the team.

“I want to once again say sorry we didn’t go to the World Cup, this is my feeling, sorry we didn’t win the AFCON, I tried to do my job,” the 48‑year‑old coach stated.

“I want to say thank you for all the support that was put in the team and once again I will give everything to this national team.”
