The National Assembly was thrown into panic on Wednesday when a fire broke out in the Senate wing of the complex.
Daily Post reports that the incident occurred in Hearing Room 107 of the National Assembly.
A video clip of the event shows Assembly staff using fire extinguishers to contain the blaze.
The fire erupted shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission finished screening Dr. Zainab Marwa, who had been nominated to represent the North‑East on the commission’s board.
At the time of this report, no injuries or casualties have been reported.
According to TVC, the fire may have been caused by a microwave that was left switched on in the kitchen area.
It was reported that, in the aftermath of the incident, journalists covering the Assembly proceedings were instructed by committee officials to delete photographs and video recordings taken during the fire.
