Atu Terver Joseph, the Special Assistant on Youths and Media Mobilisation for Governor Hyacinth Alia, has resigned from his position in the Benue State Government.

In a letter to the Secretary to the Benue State Government, Joseph expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in office as both rewarding and enlightening. “I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to serve under your administration and the confidence reposed in me,” he wrote, adding a wish for Governor Alia’s continued success in advancing the state.

Joseph did not disclose the reason for his departure. Political observers, however, have linked the resignation to his recent meeting with Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). Analysts suggest the move may be part of broader political calculations as the 2027 elections approach.

The resignation has intensified speculation about shifting alliances within Benue politics. Joseph had recently posted on his verified Facebook page that he had paid a courtesy visit to Akume, whom he called the “most powerful Benue man alive,” praising the SGF’s political influence and leadership.

These remarks have prompted debate over potential realignments in the state’s political landscape, especially given reports of tension between Governor Alia and Senator Akume. Neither Joseph nor government officials have formally linked the resignation to any political disagreement or future plans.
