Former lawmaker and Senator Ben Murray Bruce has denied claims that he was disqualified by the All Progressives Congress (APC) from its senatorial primary election.
Bruce stated that he neither withdrew from the race nor was disqualified.
Earlier this week, the APC released a list of senatorial aspirants who were not cleared to participate in the party’s primary elections, and Bruce’s name appeared on that list.
The initial list included Donald Daunemigita from Bayelsa West, Ben Murray Bruce from Bayelsa East, and Benson S. Agadaga from Bayelsa East.
In a tweet on X, Bruce said the media reports of his disqualification prompted him to contact the APC Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to clarify the situation.
At the time of this report, the APC had issued an updated list showing that Bruce had been cleared to run.
The party released a statement saying, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby releases an updated list of Senatorial aspirants not cleared to participate in the Party’s Senate Primary Elections.”
Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary, added, “The APC urges all stakeholders to uphold transparency, orderliness, and the integrity of the ongoing Primary Election process.”
The APC primary election was scheduled to take place today across the country.
