Suspected armed bandits have abducted retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, together with his wife in Katsina State.
According to reports, the incident occurred on the Katsina–Matazu road when the former senior military officer was traveling with his wife on Saturday.
Their vehicle was reportedly stopped by armed men in Matazu Local Government Area, after which they were taken to an unknown location.
Sources say the driver who was accompanying them escaped the incident with a bullet injury.
Major General Abubakar (rtd) played a key role in defence communication during his tenure as military spokesperson.
The kidnapping has heightened concerns about insecurity in the North‑West region, especially in Katsina, where abductions and armed attacks have continued to rise, affecting both residents and travelers.
The latest attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, despite continuous military efforts against armed criminal groups.
Attempts to obtain a comment from military authorities on the incident were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
