Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has addressed rumors that he is planning to leave the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to become the running mate of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed denied the speculation, stating that his political focus remains on contesting the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat in 2027 on the APM platform.
The clarification comes after social‑media claims that he was being considered as Jonathan’s vice‑presidential candidate by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to DAILY POST, the speculation gained traction when a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election on Saturday.
Jonathan was ratified as the faction’s flag bearer at a special national convention held in Abuja, although he was absent from the event. His certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
Reacting, the Bauchi governor urged the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise, insisting that he has no plans to abandon his current political ambition.
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM,” the governor said. “Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate.”
