Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, has selected former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate.
ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi announced the decision, noting that Amaechi’s selection followed extensive consultations within the party. He cited Amaechi’s strong showing as runner‑up in the party’s presidential primaries and his record of service to both his state and the nation.
According to the ADC, Amaechi’s broad experience in both the legislative and executive branches—having served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two‑term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation—makes him well‑suited to complement Atiku’s leadership. The party believes the partnership will enhance its national appeal and strengthen its campaign, presenting Nigerians with an experienced and credible alternative ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The ADC stated that choosing Amaechi reinforces its commitment to fielding a leadership team with proven governance experience and widespread appeal as it prepares for the 2027 contest.
