Appeal Court Confirms Dasin as Adamawa State ADC Chairman

The Court of Appeal in Yola ruled on Tuesday that Ibrahim Sadiq Dasin is the legitimate chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The appellate court rejected a prior decision by a lower court that had declared the April 2026 ADC state congress invalid. It held that the congress, which elected Dasin and other executive committee members, was valid.

In its ruling, the Court of Appeal accepted the appeal filed by the committee that organized the congress and overturned the lower court’s judgment that nullified the state congress.

The court stated that the trial court had no jurisdiction to hear the respondents’ claims, citing the existing legal framework governing intra‑party disputes over congresses, leadership appointments and internal administration.

Three weeks earlier, the Adamawa State High Court in Yola had annulled the local government and state congresses of the ADC held the previous month, citing a breach of due process.

Justice Ahmed Isa delivered the High Court judgment in a suit brought by Shehu Yohanna, the ADC state chairman, who challenged the legality of the congresses on the grounds that they did not comply with established legal procedures and party rules.

Yohanna also argued that the congresses proceeded after the State High Court had ordered a halt pending its substantive ruling on the suit.

After the lower court nullified the congresses, the committee that organized them filed an appeal with the higher court.
