APC may lose 2027 Abia Guber poll if issues persist – Ex-NASS member

UMUAHIA – Hon. Mezie Chiekwe Esiaga, a former House of Representatives member and one of the founding figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, cautioned that the party could perform worse in the 2027 governorship election if internal disputes over its primary process remain unresolved.

Speaking at a media briefing in Umuahia, Esiaga warned that the APC might see a decline in support compared to its 2023 results unless corrective measures are taken.

He criticised the conduct and outcome of the party’s governorship primary, calling for leadership intervention to reinforce unity and credibility within the APC.

According to Esiaga, the party should reassess its procedures and broaden stakeholder consultation to prevent further internal conflicts.

He also urged greater participation of long‑standing party members in key decision‑making, arguing that cohesion is essential for electoral success.

Further, Esiaga said he plans to formally express his concerns to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requesting the president’s support for stabilising the APC in the state.

He believes such intervention would avert avoidable setbacks and improve the party’s prospects for 2027.

Meanwhile, several APC members in Abia State continue to question the governorship primary’s outcome and have called for a review to address grievances and promote internal reconciliation.

Petitions alleging irregularities in the primary process have reportedly been submitted to the party’s appeal mechanisms by the aspirants.
