Anosike Secures PDP Gubernatorial Nomination in Abia, Criticizes State Management

Kelechi Anosike secured the governorship nomination of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State after the party completed its primary election on Sunday.

Anosike received 16,543 votes, defeating former Commissioner for Information John Okiyi Kalu, who garnered 3,145 votes. Olugu Kalu Ugba, former Deputy Chief of Staff to former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, obtained 961 votes.

The result was announced by PDP Abia State Chairman Abraham Amah at the party’s office in Umuahia, with the endorsement of the PDP electoral panel for the state, headed by Chris Nnadi.

Amah noted that the primary, overseen by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian Police Force, and other security agencies, was held in all 184 electoral wards of the state.

The chairman also mentioned that a few individuals reportedly declined to submit results from five wards, but the outcomes from the 179 wards that did report were sufficient to determine the final tally.

Speaking to journalists at the PDP office, Anosike said that while Abia State is resource‑rich, it has been poorly managed. He pledged to transform the state into an agricultural and industrial hub and called on PDP members to unite in the effort to take control of the Abia State Government House in 2027.
