The Federal government has been urged to safeguard Nigerian communities and schools from attacks by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.
This call came from the 15th Biennial Mother’s Union Conference of the Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Umuahia, Anglican Communion, which was held in Ubakala, Umuahia.
Gospel Ogechi Geo‑Ibeabuchi, President of the Women Ministry of the Anglican Diocese of Umuahia, warned that many families are being displaced while communities and pupils are being targeted by terrorists across various states of the federation.
Geo‑Ibeabuchi challenged the federal government to demonstrate the effectiveness of its security policies by ensuring that no community or school is overrun by bandits again.
She noted that recent security incidents in parts of Northern Nigeria, the South West and sections of the South East highlight the need to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve collaboration among security agencies, and adopt proactive measures to prevent further escalation.
She also urged the Abia State government and security agencies not to overlook security concerns in communities around Umuahia, including Amakama, Ohiya and Lodu, emphasizing that early intervention and sustained vigilance are critical to protecting residents and maintaining peace.
Geo‑Ibeabuchi added that many Nigerians are facing economic hardship, hunger and uncertainty, and that government at all levels “should remain attentive to the concerns of ordinary citizens.”
